I’ve lived in Orlando since 1998 and I am always on the hunt for great, new, unique Orlando experiences. Well I recently found one such experience and I thought I’d share it with you. Faith Arts Village Orlando, known as FAVO by the fans, is a place where artists, musicians, a food trucks come together for one special evening on the first Friday of every month.
FAVO – Uniquely Orlando
If you’re the type of person who loves to discover unique, off the beaten path experiences in Central Florida, then you are going to love FAVO. At FAVO, local artisans create and showcase their beautiful, original, thought-provoking works of art, each created by hand. One visit to FAVO and you’ll easily understand why Orlando is known throughout the United States as one of the most creative cities in the country. I enjoyed walking the hallways and balconies of the old 1950’s motel formerly known as the David Park Motel and is now home to FAVO. Each room of the old motel has been converted into an artist’s studio where amazing local artists warmly greet you and welcome you into their studio. From original paintings, handmade jewelry, and much more, you are sure to find something for your home or office.
When you visit FAVO, you’ll experience something truly special and magical beyond the art. At FAVO, it is about community; it is where old friends come see each other and where new friendships are born. You’ll quickly realize, as I did, that the Faith Arts Village Orlando is truly a special place in The City Beautiful.
Orlando Artist Jason Hunt
One of the highlights of my visit to Faith Arts Village Orlando was visiting the studio of graphite artist Jason Hunt. Hands down, Jason Hunt is one of the most talented artists I have ever had the honor of meeting. I spent a lot of time in Jason’s studio learning more about this gentle soul that brings moments in time to life through the use of graphite. The images he creates on paper captivate you and draw you into the moment Jason is illustrating.
One of the most amazing experiences about my time with Jason was the passion and the story he has for each and every piece of art. Whether talking about the amazing drawing he did of President Abraham Lincoln, or a child on a park bench, Jason loves to share with you the story behind his art. He broadened my appreciate for art in such an amazing way and thanks to Jason, I’ll never look at art the same. Be sure to drop by Jason’s studio when you visit FAVO!
Faith Arts Village Orlando is open every first Friday of the month from 5pm to 9pm. As we mentioned it is located in the old Davis Park Motel just north of East Colonial Drive in downtown Orlando; there is ample parking off Highland Avenue. Oh yeah, and be sure to go hungry because some of Orlando’s finest food trucks will be there ready to serve you some of our city’s finest cuisine on wheels.
