Winter Garden is a medium sized city located in western Orange County, Florida 14-miles from Downtown Orlando. It has three neighborhoods and is the 88th largest community in the state of Florida. The city is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Winter Park city motto is “A charming little city with a Juicy Past.” The city has a humid subtropical climate. It is a decidedly white collar city where over 89% of the workforce holds white collar positions. It is a middle income city when compared to state and federal statistics. The city features historic homes alongside modern structures, quiet streets and loads of charm.

The area that would one day be Winter Garden was first inhabited by Native Americans. European settlers came to the area in approximately 1845 after the Armed Occupation Act opened up the area for settlers to move in. When the Orange Belt Railway arrived in 1886 growth in the community took off. Citrus was the main cash crop for the area. The city was incorporated in 1903. Several freezes during the 1970s and 1980s brought down citrus production and the community, inspired by nearby Walt Disney World became a tourist destination. Today technology, tourism and median industries are the mainstays of the local economy.

The city spans 15.6 square miles that is virtually all land area. In 2000, the population was 14,351, the population density was 1,190.2 inhabitants per square mile and the median household income was $41,858. In 2013, the population was 37,711, the estimated median household income was $55,981 and the estimated per capita income was $24,854. In the same year, the estimated median house or condo value was $190,700, the mean housing price on all housing units was $210,977 and the median gross rent was $956.

Public education in Winter Garden is provided by the Orange County School District. Local schools, both private and public include Lake Whitney Elementary, Lakeview Middle School, the Montessori of Winter Garden Charter, Legacy High Charter and many more.
